Empauer Packaging Symposium 2025 Highlights

I recently attended the Empauer Packaging Symposium 2025 in Melbourne, and it was an eye-opening experience!

One key highlight that resonated with me was the ‘Say-Do Gap’ – where people often express a desire to approach things differently, but the actual implementation rate remains low.

The Empauer Packaging Symposium provided a compelling platform to discuss the future of packaging, emphasising the evolving regulatory landscape in Australia and the global implications of sustainable practices. Key topics included the legal challenges of greenwashing, innovative packaging design, and the role of artificial intelligence in revolutionising supply chains.

Amcor showcased their commitment to sustainability, highlighting their journey toward reducing food waste and developing recyclable and reusable packaging solutions. Their efforts align with broader industry goals to transition to a circular economy, as outlined by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) and other regulatory bodies.

The Empauer Packaging Symposium also underscored the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) growing focus on greenwashing, where misleading environmental claims can lead to significant legal repercussions. This concern is driving businesses to adopt transparent and verifiable sustainability practices, ensuring consumer trust and compliance with Australian Consumer Law.

Artificial intelligence emerged as a transformative force in the packaging industry.

Now, it enables smarter design processes, predictive analytics, and enhanced supply chain efficiency. AI-powered tools are optimising material usage, reducing waste, and tailoring packaging aesthetics to meet consumer preferences, marking a new era of innovation and sustainability.

Empauer’s leadership in hosting this symposium reflects their dedication to driving change in the packaging sector. By fostering collaboration among industry leaders, regulators, and innovators, they are paving the way for a more sustainable and compliant future. The insights shared at this event highlight the critical role of packaging in addressing environmental challenges and shaping consumer behaviour both in Australia and overseas.

As Matt Kuperholz aptly put it, "The PACE of CHANGE has never been this RAPID...nor will it ever be this SLOW again."
